COMMUNITY SAFETY

Now everyone can ride verified

Safety and security are important for everyone in our community, no matter what seat they’re in. Drivers have always been required to verify their profile. Now we're encouraging riders to take this safety measure, too. This will help drivers confirm that the person they’re riding with is who they say they are.

How it works

Our process includes cross-checking a rider’s personal information, like their legal name and phone number, using trusted, third-party databases. If their information can’t be validated, riders may be asked to upload an ID. Any information provided is protected in accordance with our privacy policy.

What riders see

When a rider verifies their identity, they'll get a verification badge on their profile.

What drivers see

Now drivers will see a rider's name and verification badge in addition to their rating and photo. We're also asking riders to update their profiles with accurate names and photos.

Safety is a shared responsibility

“When you’re in a car, it’s close quarters. This gives me more confidence in accepting rides.”
Brian R., driver since 2017*

“I prefer that a driver feels comfortable with me as a rider.”
Maya G., rider since 2019*

Safety measures for all

Our safety tools and policies help keep everyone safe when they’re sharing the ride.

Riders and drivers can share their location with a friend, connect to live support in the app, and get check-ins if the ride has long stops or route deviations.

How we share the ride

When you drive or ride with Lyft, you’re contributing to a community that puts people first.

Where everyone is treated with equal respect and mutual kindness. Because we’re all in this together.
