Setting a multi-sensor safety standard
Sensors are the eyes and ears of a self-driving system, and not all approaches are created equal. That's why we require any fully driverless vehicle on the Lyft platform to use a multi-modal redundant perception system — combining sensors like cameras, radar, and LiDAR — so that if one is impaired, the vehicle can still see clearly and operate safely. As the technology evolves, our standards will evolve with it, and we'll continue to publish those updates openly.

Now, riders in select markets can request an autonomous ride right from the Lyft app. We know this technology is exciting, but also new and unknown. Our goal is to create a safe, supportive experience for you, with step-by-step education prompts and live human support.
Every autonomous ride is tracked in real time, and as always, you’ll have access to our safety toolkit to give you more control and peace of mind.
