Today marks 57 years since Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. led the first March on Washington. People are once again gathering in the National Mall, and hopefully with a deep sense of urgency — the progress made over the last 57 years is not enough.
We cannot march one day, and return to normal the next. Be shocked by the news of another senseless murder, and then change the channel or flip the page.
This fight requires every individual and every organization to stand up to injustice — every day, every time. Allies that sound the alarm on systemic racism and work to dismantle it. Allies that are in it for the long-haul, continuing to do the work, even when others have gone home.
The Lyft community stands with the allies who are doing the work each day. Today, we’re supporting the March on Washington in partnership with the National Action Network (NAN) with discounted transportation. Tomorrow, we will continue to work toward equality, opportunity and economic mobility with our civil rights partners NAACP and NAN, and our Access Alliance partners, My Brother’s Keeper Alliance (an Obama Foundation initiative) and The National Urban League, to support the transportation needs of Black communities.
Until the work is done, we will be here, using our voice, our dollars and our community to stand up and help. And we’re constantly looking at what else we can do — if you have ideas, we want to hear from you.
