How to ride

  1. Kick-start the ground twice to get going.
  2. Press the throttle on the right-hand side of the handlebar to speed up.
  3. Hold down the brake on the left-hand side of the handlebar to slow down.
  4. One person per scooter — passengers prohibited.
  5. Weee!

Where to ride

Please ride your scooter in the street or in a bike lane when you are within the Central Business District (Downtown). Outside of the Central Business District, you may ride on the sidewalk — but please always yield to pedestrians.

Follow traffic laws

Washington DC traffic laws apply to cars, bicycles, and, yep: scooters. This means you must stop at red lights and stop signs, ride in the same direction as traffic, leave crosswalks free and clear for pedestrians, and, of course, yield to pedestrians. Always.

Parking your scooter

Please be mindful of others when parking your scooter — use bike racks or park by the curb at all times. Don't block sidewalks, pathways, bus stops, or wheelchair ramps. DC also has very specific rules around parking your scooter.

Reserve before you go

Ensure that your scooter will actually be there when you arrive. Reserve a scooter ahead of time and we’ll hold your scooter for up to 15 minutes. You’ll be charged a per minute rate while the scooter is reserved. Once you unlock the scooter, you’ll also be charged an unlock fee.

See a friend? Latte (with oat milk, please) intermission? Just tap Lock in your Lyft app to lock your scooter (you’ll be charged a per minute rate while the scooter is locked) until you're ready again. We’ll wait.
