Built in 1926 to provide a living room for the campus, the Memorial Union was predominantly funded by private donations. The year following its October 5, 1928 opening, it was the busiest college union in the country. It still thrives today as the social and leisure center of campus.
The Kohl Center, opened in 1998, is the home for the UW Men's, and Women's Basketball teams, and the Men's and Women's Hockey Teams. Since opening, the building has met with much success. Areas specific to the UW programs were designed by the Wisconsin coaches with the programs in mind.
