Manhattan Bridge

The first suspension bridge built on deflection theory, the Manhattan Bridge opened to traffic in 1909. The American Society of Civil Engineers named the bridge a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark. The bridge has been going under an extensive $834 million reconstruction since 1982.

Grant Houses is named after Ulysses S. Grant (1822-1885), a Civil War Union army general who become the 18th U.S. President. He was head of the Union Army in 1864. Grant Houses consists of nine buildings, 13 & 21-stories tall with 1,940 apartments. Completed October 31, 1957, 15.05-acres.
