Dia's installation of 23 basalt stone columns, each paired with a tree, is a continuation of artist Joseph Beuys's project 7000 Eichen (7000 Oaks) which began in 1982 at Documenta 7 in Germany. Beuys intended the project to become a global mission to effect environmental and social change.
