This carousel has been an important piece of Coney Island history. It is the sole-surviving carousel from Brooklyn’s Golden Age of carousel construction (1800-1930s) when Coney Island had many carousel manufacturers and housed 25 hand-carved carousel attractions.
The Carroll Street Bridge is one of only four remaining retractile bridges in the country. Opened to traffic in 1889, the bridge now uses electricity instead of steam to retract.
