Biometric Information and Security Policy

How does Lyft use biometric information and what biometric information does Lyft collect?

Lyft uses biometric information by having some users submit photo imagery of their face and/or photo imagery of an identification document (for example, a driver's license) to confirm their identity or account prior to using the Lyft platform. Lyft uses this imagery to confirm the identity or account of Lyft users and to improve the accuracy of this feature. As part of our verification method, we, or our service providers, may compare the submitted imagery with each other as well as existing account details (for example, matching information in a submitted image to information a driver submitted at the time of application). This method of verification may include detecting and comparing the faces in the imagery through the use of biometric information, such as facial geometry. As the verification scans the geometry of the face in the imagery, the derivative information is deemed to be “biometric information.” To assist in this process, Lyft may share this information with service providers, such as Persona Identities, Inc., or GB Group Plc, who may process and store biometric information solely to assist us, at our direction.

Please note: Lyft engages in identity and account verification through methods that do not collect or use biometric information. Lyft may collect and process imagery in ways that do not involve biometric information. Lyft will provide specific notice and obtain consent before collecting and using biometric information, in accordance with applicable law.
