Your Quick Guide to New Year’s Eve Earnings

A black Lyft with a blue Amp in the windshield.

Cue the fireworks! It’s almost New Year’s Eve, the biggest earnings night of the year. Here’s your guide for when and where to earn so you can plan ahead and maximize what you make. Have a great night and here’s to a happy 2020!

When

Expect higher ride requests (and dressed-up riders) throughout the night, with demand peaking between 7 PM and 3 AM. Be sure to check your Lyft Driver app throughout the night for real-time updates on where it’s busiest near you.

Pro tips:

  • Be a hero for your riders: Keep extra chargers and water bottles handy to score better tips (and high-fives) from passengers.

  • Keep safety top of mind: We know there are times when it's perfectly reasonable to cancel a ride. If you do this, make sure to reach out to our support team so they’re aware and can review the request. Learn more here.

  • In the (hopefully) unlikely event that a passenger causes some damage to your vehicle, you must report the damage before beginning the next ride, or within 6 hours, whichever is sooner. Learn more here

Where

Now that you’ve got the best times to drive, here’s where you can expect more passengers requesting rides throughout the night:

  • Bars and clubs: Prepare for pickups and drop-offs at bars as locals meet up with friends to ring in the new year.

  • Residential neighborhoods:  As people all over town open their homes for potluck parties, expect more ride requests (and maybe an added stop at the liquor store).
