This election season, Lyft is providing the means and motivation for riders and drivers to make a difference in their communities. Over the years, Lyft has helped more than 3 million people exercise their right to vote and this year, we pledge to grow our ride volume to the polls by 25%. As we gear up for November 5, we’re ensuring everyone in America has the opportunity to answer the question: Where are we going?
Helping you get to the polls
Studies have shown that people without cars are far less likely to vote. Lyft is committed to breaking down those barriers so everyone’s voice can be heard. That’s why we're offering a 50% discount (up to $10) on Election Day rides to the polls. Just preload the code, VOTE24, on or before November 5*. The code is valid from 5 AM to 10 PM in every time zone, and can be used on a rideshare, bikeshare, or scooter ride.
“Lyft believes transportation access should never be a barrier for any citizen seeking to vote,” said Jerry Golden, Lyft Chief Policy Officer. “Our Voting Access Program reflects our commitment to being a force for good, and we’re proud to encourage riders and drivers to exercise their fundamental right to vote, regardless of income, zip code, or political affiliation."
Spreading the word: influencers, app updates, and data
The internet’s favorites: Who better to inspire voters than the most vote-winning reality stars? That’s why Lyft is partnering with Serena Page & Kordell Beckham (America’s choice for hottest Love Island Season 6 couple) and the iconic Sasha Colby (the winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 15) to highlight the importance of voting and encourage others to get out to the polls.
Lyft’s voting report: To illustrate the role that rideshare plays during election season, Lyft today released exclusive data around where, when, and how people get to the polls — and how long they wait once they get there. Lyft is also sharing the stories of several drivers who will be bringing people to the polls on Election Day, including first-time voters, recent immigrants, and an 89-year-old who was barred from voting until he was 30.
New app features: On Election Day, the Lyft app will feature special election-themed elements, including a home screen takeover, and election-themed icons and messaging. When a rider applies the Election Day ride code, the app will light up with red, white and blue confetti to celebrate their participation in our democracy.
Partnering to make a difference
For the past decade, the nonpartisan Lyft Up Voting Access Program has partnered with nonprofit organizations to ensure we are providing free and discounted rides to those who most need them. This year, we are working with the following nonpartisan organizations and business partners:
Democracy Reinvestment Fund: This election cycle, we’re partnering with the Democracy Reinvestment Fund, a project of the Amalgamated Foundation, to match dollar-for-dollar any financial commitment from partner contributions. This partnership will help us serve more people and meet historical demand.
Levi Strauss & Co. and Showtime/MTV: Earlier this year, Lyft joined a new coalition with Levi Strauss & Co. and Showtime/MTV to help close the voting gap for community college students. We aim to support 500,000 students with voter registration and turnout by 2028.
National non-profits: During the primary elections, early voting, and general election, we’ve teamed up with national nonprofits to offer free or discounted rides to communities that often face challenges getting to the polls. These include: When We All Vote (WWAV), National Voter Registration Day (NVRD), National Council of Negro Women (NCNW), League of Women Voters (LVW), Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA), National Council on Aging (NCOA), Asian and Pacific Islander American Vote (APIAVote), Hispanic Federation, Grita! Canta! Vota!, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), National Urban League (NUL), VoteRiders, Students Learn Students Vote Coalition (SLSV), Power the Polls, National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS), Easterseals Inc., Human Rights Campaign Foundation, and the YMCA.
