Recognition at Lyft: Celebrate our winners

Aug 16, 2024

Recognition is an important part of our Lyft culture. We believe that team members should be recognized and celebrated for the work that they lead and contribute to. Monthly, we celebrate team members who have exemplified our core values: we are customer-obsessed, we strive for excellence, we are accountable, and we all belong at our company-wide All-Hands called Fortnight.

Quarterly, we recognize People Managers who have exemplified excellence in people management and leadership with our 5-Star Manager award. This month, we hear from 7 winners on what the value they were nominated for means to them!

Sarah Cormack-Patton

Staff Researcher

“‘We Strive for Excellence’ means continuously seeking feedback and being willing to act on that feedback, and providing constructive feedback even when doing so goes against the grain.”

Vladimir Sviarzhynski

Engineering Manager and Poland Site Lead

“‘We All Belong’ is at the heart of how we operate here at Lyft. This value is about making sure everyone feels welcome and included. By fostering this sense of belonging, we create a positive and supportive environment where everyone can do their best work."

Marko Herkaliuk

Data Engineer

How can leaders exemplify accountability for their teams? "Leaders can share responsibility for successes and failures with the team, push the team (and its members individually) to make decisions, and provide as much information as possible for decision-making and action. Be honest in their feedback, and provide clear communication with the team, partners, and customers."

Elizabeth White

Senior Analyst, Lyft Media

“To me, “we all belong” means that you feel seen, accepted, and appreciated as you are. I believe everyone brings something valuable to the table that makes us better, and it’s important to take time to get to know someone to understand what that is. Engaging with different team members and participating in team events are key to help facilitate this.“

Thu Le

Staff Data Scientist

What does “we strive for excellence” mean to you in the workplace? “Accept that we are human and humans make mistakes. Listening to our customers, going with our guts, questioning all the assumptions as well as the status quo will help us discover and learn from our past mistakes and strive for better products.”

Tanner Brunsdale

Director, Benefits & Mobility

How can leaders exemplify inclusivity and belonging for their teams? “For me, building mutual respect and trust starts with getting to know your team members on a personal level and allowing them to know you as well. Creating opportunities for team members to share their thoughts and ideas is crucial to fostering inclusivity. Managers can encourage this by organizing regular team discussions and ensuring that everyone has a chance to contribute.”

Francisco Partida

Operations Manager

“Being internally customer-obsessed is truly about getting to know all of your team members. What they enjoy, what frustrates them, what they want from their careers, who their family is. If you do this you can better understand their “why”. I believe folks want to do good work and if, as a leader, you can align your vision with their “why” that’s how you drive results.”
